Lent devotional 2025
Coming on the heels of Epiphany and Ordinary Time, the season of Lent offers a shift in tone and focus as we enter the wilderness with Christ and commemorate his suffering. It’s this season through which the church prepares for the celebration of Easter by prayer and fasting. Though penitence and fasting offer personal and intimate interaction with Christ, Lent (like the rest of the church life and calendar), is best engaged in community. While our individual congregations and households experience separation during our weekday routines, you are invited to join other members of the Appalachian deanery through this year’s Lenten devotional The Lord is Good.
The devotional offers reflections, poetry, Scripture readings, and artwork for the 40 days of Lent. Together, may we grow in holiness, maturity, and in the joy of the glorious inheritance which is given to us who are in Christ (Eph 1:18-23).
Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made, and you forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. -collect for Ash Wednesday, BCP 2019
